Pharmaceutical low-borosilicate and neutral glass (7.0 and 5.0 expansion classes) require significant amounts of boron trioxide (B2O3, 8.5% - 10.5%) to impart hydrolytic resistance and thermal shock durability. In traditional fuel-fired regenerative furnaces, high combustion air velocities strip volatile boron from the glass surface, degrading glass composition and creating heavy cord defects.
BTI’s Cold-Top All-Electric Furnace solves this problem permanently. By deploying 24 heavy-duty water-jacketed molybdenum electrodes flat-inserted across two melting layers (Layer A & B, 1400 kVA total), electrical energy is released directly into the molten glass bath via Joule heating. The surface is blanketed by a cold raw material crust, achieving zero boron vaporization, pristine optical homogeneity, and high thermal efficiency (0.88 kWh/kg glass).
